This is the Read Me file for the data set for ÒThe nature of the arguments for creationism, and I.D. and evolutionÓ by Ralph M. Barnes, Rebecca A. Church, & Samuel Draznin-Nagy. The data is presented in two CSV files. The two file names are: ÒArgument Type DataÓ and ÒArgument Topic Data.Ó Brief column labels can be found in row #2 for both files. In most cases these brief column labels are self-explanatory. In other cases, more information about the nature of the content of a column may be required. The additional information may be found below or it may be provided in row 1 of each spreadsheet. For the file ÒArgument Type DataÓ: The type of argument can be found in the columns labeled argument_1 through argument_50. The data in these tables are in alphanumeric codes. An explanation for these codes can be found in row 1 of the spreadsheet. For the file: ÒArgument Topic DataÓ: The argument topic can be found in the columns labeled argument_1 through argument_50. The data in these tables are in alphanumeric codes. An explanation for these codes can be found in row 1 of the spreadsheet. For both files: Coder: In the coder column the coders are Ralph Barnes (R.B.) and Samuel Draznin-Nagy (S.D.). The term final indicates the final decision of the two coders. The data in the journal article were taken from the rows marked ÒfinalÓ. Document number: Each of our source documents were assigned a unique document number. The unique source document identifier can be found in the document number column. Goal: This column indicates the primary goal of each web document. Number of Arguments: This column simply lists the total number of arguments present in each source document. Argument_1 through argument_50: These columns indicate the argument number (as we labeled them) for all 72 of our source documents. In most cases, the arguments are numbered sequentially. However, there are a few cases where gaps appear in the sequence.
