This paper describes experiments which quantify the influence of fouling biofilms on heat transfer resistance under controlled laboratory conditions. Experimental results compare well with a rather simple mathematical model employing friction factor, biofilm thickness, wall temperature, bulk temperature, and fluid properties as inputs.
