Using lesson-specific surveys, as well as pre and post-treatment surveys and assessments, the 5E model was shown to be effective at increasing students' situational and personal interest. The factors of enjoyment and meaningfulness most strongly correlated with students' perceptions of interest. Current theories of interest development were supported, but more robust and rigorous research is still needed.en5E learning cycleScience--Study and teachingEducation, SecondaryInterest development and the 5E modelProfessional PaperCopyright 2013 by John Eric Nilsen
