This thesis suggests redirecting our attention to our immediate, palpable natural environment in an effort to re-establish an attachment to place through a better understanding of the unique qualities of our natural surroundings. It acknowledges that a better understanding of the natural environment, the one outside one's backdoor, is gained through first-hand experience and discovery and when provided with the opportunity to engage in primary experience of our natural places there exists the potential for improved understanding and emotional involvement in place.en
