This report determines the forage production potential of spring and winter cereal grain species and varieties under dryland conditions in central Montana. Determine the optimum spring cereal seeding rates for maximum forage production. Cereal forage yields were respectable considering the low precipitation levels received over the past year. Fall 2000 and early spring seeded crops on tilled soils experienced severe and multiple soil blasting and seedling burial. Therefore, the data presented here is not sufficient to make extensive inferences or comparisons amongst varieties or species.
