In this investigation, issues of reading comprehension in high schools students were explored. Reading comprehension interventions such as metacognitive reading logs were administered with the goal of improving student literacy. Trade books, newspapers, and others types of media were used to differentiate instruction as part of intervention strategies. The results indicate that when students are given the opportunity to read outside of class, their ability to comprehend scientific information increases.en
