Item The impact of cultural and linguistic differences on Quebec's financial and political institutions(Montana State University - Bozeman, Honors College, 2022) Lever, Beatrix Morgan; Chairperson, Graduate Committee: Sara RushingThere is a long-standing cultural clash embedded into Canadian society, which has caused Quebec to be its own socio-political entity, meaning a body that is distinguished from the rest of Canada with regard to social and political factors. The tension caused by linguistic distinctions, as well as the financial strength of Quebec, has led to a desire on the part of nationalists to become an independent state. French-speaking Canadians are often subject to social sanctions, such as being ridiculed for their accents and accusations of being separatists, due to their assumed connection to Quebec. This phenomenon further exacerbates the province's nationalist tendencies, which are heavily reflected in its financial policies and artist community. The goal is to understand Quebec's contemporary political and financial relationship with the rest of Canada. The focus of this research is on the impact of cultural differences resulting from the historical context upon which Quebec was founded.Item Gaelic echo : a retreat & learning center(Montana State University - Bozeman, 1992) Campbell, ColleenThis project is being developed for a new and eager generation of students from all over the world who are just now coming to grips with the treasures and the excitement of the old Celtic traditions and the Gaelic language. Together, the new generation of students and the project will create balanced judgements and wide perspectives between the culture of the Celts and the world of today. The working dynamics of the Celtic mind will now be able to be taught to the children of the Celt. The goal of this project is to create a learning atmosphere in which the Gaelic language, along with the history and tradition of the Celts, can be taught. In order to fulfill this goal, the design of the buildings and layout of the campus will all be influenced by Celtic design, materials and hierarchy.
