Item The historian, the philosopher, and the scientist: three approaches to science history filmmaking(Montana State University - Bozeman, College of Arts & Architecture, 2023) Lea, Emily; Chairperson, Graduate Committee: Dennis AigScience history films are an underutilized way to build public interest in science. Required. Science history portrays the genesis of a significant idea and is an ideal topic for documentaries that aim to improve science literacy in a low pressure, highly entertaining cinematic experience, without being overly rhetorical. When attitude towards science improves, understanding may follow. By analyzing three influential filmmakers in their different approaches to history films, Errol Morris's The Thin Blue Line, Agnes Varda's The Gleaners and I, and Carl Sagan's Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, I assemble a toolkit of helpful techniques for science history filmmakers to employ. I apply these conditions to my science history film "The Great French Wine Blight" in order to best present this history in a thoughtful and engaging way while remaining faithful to the science and ideally improving the audience's attitude towards science in general.Item Functional suburbs : the context of an architectural philosophy(Montana State University - Bozeman, 1986) Mendro, David JamesItem Literature and architecture(Montana State University - Bozeman, 1977) Davis, DonnaItem The pursuit of meaning in architecture(Montana State University - Bozeman, 1980) Bergman, Gary RichardItem An investigation of the philosophy of athletics in the junior high school(Montana State University - Bozeman, 1958) Quenemoen, Robert L.Item Introducing philosophy into the pre-university educational system(Montana State University - Bozeman, 1979) Baril, Thomas EttingerItem Theories of general education : a critical assessment(Montana State University - Bozeman, College of Education, Health & Human Development, 1988) Howard, Craig CozadItem Selected topics in theoretical mathematics(Montana State University - Bozeman, College of Letters & Science, 1988) McAtee, Deborah GibsonItem Why we choose to be stupid : the responsibility of andragogy and a search for answers in paradox, Canon, multiculturalism and the philosophy of postmodern critical education theory(Montana State University - Bozeman, College of Education, Health & Human Development, 1997) Garcia, Gregory NortonItem Adult education philosophies and teaching styles of faculty at Ricks College(Montana State University - Bozeman, College of Education, Health & Human Development, 1997) Hughes, Carol Lynn
