Abstract
This text is written as an overview of form, music theory, and fundamentals of the musical process. Examples and compositions are focused on the piano for the following reasons: first, the piano keyboard is laid out in a clear way to discuss and demonstrate concepts. Second, it is helpful to have a common instrument for the class, and piano avoids conversations about transposition (needed for many winds and brass). All concepts discussed in this text can be transferred to the instrument of your choice, and I encourage you to use your primary instrument to learn concepts if you play or sing.
