Only the Essentials: A Collection of Readings & Lessons on Technical Writing

Abstract

This open textbook is designed to introduce readers to the basics of technical communication: audience and task analysis in workplace contexts, clear and concise communications style, effective document design, teamwork and collaboration, and fundamental research skills. Some sections of this text were remixed and modified from Technical Writing Essentials (2023) by Candice Neveu, Loren Gaudet, Monika Smith, Suzan Last, and Technical Writing @ SLCC (2021) by Department of English, Linguistics, and Writing Studies, Salt Lake City Community College under the following licensing: Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 4.0 International License. The book materials were then revised, edited, and formatted by Kyndra Campbell, Department Chair of Writing and Developmental Humanities Gallatin College, Montana State University.
